I found the following Assasin bug under some logs today in camp. Evidently they can give a rather severe bite. I wonder what he assasinates for food???

Thank youfor post the picture of this beautiful insect. This species suck blood from larger mammals and sometimes kill some large insects with its tubular mouth and suck out the body fluids. Their are not bad, just one more species fighting for survival.

Really? the idea of this insect entering a tent to suck the blood of this mammal is rather disturbing. how do you know about this species FJ ?
F. J. PECHIR, on 09 Jan 2008
James.- good to know that you are interested in this interesting specimen. There are many species of this insect group in the entire world, and many of them are examples of the most beautiful insects that I have ever seen! Answering your cuestion: I have a Ph.D. degree in biology. All my life the study and research about animals and the conservation of nature have been an important part of my daily activities…and I love bugs!!
