Elephants beginning to disperse finally

Category: Mammals | Date: Oct 14 2007 | By: tumaren

After about 6 months of large herds of elephant on us the groups are beginning to disperse with only the odd bull passing through. this is in a way a relief. our poor trees need some time to grow a bit and recover from all the damage. pictured below is the big boss bull we call rob with some females behind. he always rests his trunk like this.
cheers, james

This is an impressive picture of an awe-inspiring mammal. I am glad that local people are working to save our planet.

From Stowe, VT (!).
It is unusual to see males in company of so many females. Is this guy overly protective of his herd?

Hi Michael,
Greetings to Stowe. I learned to ski in the Winnie the Pooh program in the 70s.
Rob would boss other bulls around when with the girls but we never saw him fight with another seriously. I think it was obvious to everyone when he was here that he would win so they didn’t challenge. One time in the Mara though I found a bull shortly after he was killed by another. They had fought all night, I knew because I was camping nearby. Eventually one bull fell and it appears that then the other rammed him on the underside. It was sad and rather unbeleivable.
Cheers,James
